A Whitstable man will stand trial over the death of a popular Canterbury schoolboy.

Gareth Jones, from Hill View Road, is charged with causing death by careless driving on July 27 last year.

He was arrested after 16-year-old Tom Brenchley died in a crash on the London-bound Thanet Way at Dargate.

A pre-trial hearing at Maidstone Magistrates Court on Monday ruled there is sufficient evidence for him to face trial before a crown court jury.

Jones, 48, will reappear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 20, for a plea and directions hearing and has been released on unconditional bail.

Tom, a former Archbishop's School, Canterbury pupil, from Staplestreet, Hernhill, suffered serious head injuries when his moped collided with a Volvo.
