Whitstable produced one of the shocks of the FA Cup first qualifying round by despatching Ryman League Premier Division Carshalton 2-1 at Belmont and earning £3,000 in prize money.
Goalkeeper Kevin Fewell, pictured, was Whitstable’s hero, producing a series of fine saves to deny a Carshalton side tipped as title favourites at the start of the season.
Though the visitors started strongly, Whitstable took a 44th-minute lead through Alex Hossick who found the net from 25 yards. Stuart Vahid increased the lead 10 minutes after the re-start, taking advantage of fine approach play by Ben Brown who signed on loan from Ramsgate earlier in the week.
Carshalton striker England finally beat Fewell a minute later and though they upped the tempo, the home defence and Fewell stood firm for a famous win.
