Whitstable boss Justin Luchford admits his position is under increasing pressure as Town’s slide toward the foot of Ryman League, Division 1 South continues.

The pressure mounted as fans called for Luchford’s head after just a year at the helm when two goals in the last 10 minutes saw 10-man Whitstable crash 4-2 at home to Burgess Hill on Tuesday night.

It was Town’s fourth straight loss and they face the possibility of going bottom if they lose at basement-boys Three Bridges on Saturday.

Luchford said: "We are in a hole and we have got to get out of it. Whether I am still in the job to do it is another matter.

"The fans made it clear they want me out, on Tuesday.

"The chairman is not happy – we have got a good squad and have not got the points on the board.

"The buck stops with me but it is still early, we just need to stop the rot. The players are behind me, we all want to turn it around."

Luchford held talks with chairman Gary Johnson after the game and Mr Johnson admitted he was ‘not happy’.

He said: "Justin has brought in some good individual players and we have played with great confidence and flair but the game is all about winning.

"It’s a results-driven business and any organisation would be concerned with the way things have been going.

"It’s disappointing, we had high hopes for this season but we have 42 games and there is plenty of time to get things right. We all need to get behind each other.

"There are no ultimatums or points targets. Saturday is a tough match but I’m sure we would all be mightily disappointed if we were not to come away with three points."
