A 50-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her former husband three years ago.

Valerie June Brown, who formerly lived on the Stanhope Estate at Ashford, is accused of involvement in the killing of 53-year-old Michael Wood in July, 2002.

She did not enter a plea or make an application for bail when she appeared before Canterbury magistrates and was remanded in custody to Maidstone Crown Court on September 23.

She is now remarried and lives in Chester-le-Street, Durham.

In 2003, Simon Wright, then aged 27, from Willsborough, near Ashford, was sentenced to life for the murder of Mr Wood who was stabbed at Kentons Yard, Challock, on July 7, 2002.
