England international batsman Zak Crawley has signed a Kent contract extension.

The new deal will see Crawley remain with his home county until at least the end of next season.

It comes after the 25-year-old was England’s top run scorer in the Ashes earlier this summer, as they failed to regain the urn, and eight days after it was revealed he is set to captain England’s side in a three-game One-Day International series against Ireland this month.

“I love representing my home county and to sign on at Kent for another year is great for me personally,” Crawley said.

“I’ve been really enjoying my cricket this summer and, after a winter away further improving my game, I hope to hit the ground running with Kent in 2024.”

Retiring Kent director of cricket Paul Downton, who’s set to be replaced by Simon Cook from the start of October, said: “This summer, Zak has, once again, shown what Kent supporters already knew - he is an opening batter of the highest quality across multiple formats.

“It’s fantastic to see a product of the Kent Cricket Academy do so well for club and country, and we’re delighted to have secured his services for another year.”

Crawley has made 134 appearances for Kent overall since making his first-team debut in 2017, scoring 5,649 runs. He has 39 England Test caps and has made three One-Day International appearances.

The former Tonbridge School pupil blasted a first-innings 153-ball 158 last time out in Kent’s drawn County Championship Division 1 match with Nottinghamshire in Canterbury.
