Bowler Harry Podmore leaves Kent a year ahead of end of his current deal and signs for Glamorgan on 'multi-year contract'

Seam bowler Harry Podmore has left Kent a year ahead of the end of his present contract.

Podmore, 28, signed a three-year deal at Kent in September 2020 but has opted to depart The Spitfire Ground for County Championship Division 2 outfit Glamorgan following the conclusion of the 2022 season.

He received Kent men’s cap 218 at the end of the 2019 season after being named men’s Bowler-of-the-Year at their end-of-season awards.

Podmore hit memorable boundaries to seal victories away at Worcestershire in the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final and at home to Lancashire in this year’s edition of the competition on the Spitfires’ way to 50-over cup glory. Podmore also helped Kent to promotion from County Championship Division 2 in 2018 as they finished second behind champions Warwickshire.

He said: “After a challenging couple of seasons, I have decided to leave Kent, and I do so with a heavy heart.

“I have loved my time at the club and am proud to be a capped player. I will always cherish the memories of winning two trophies and competing well in Division 1 of the County Championship. I simply feel it's time for a fresh start.

“I have nothing but praise for everybody at Kent. The board and the office staff, the coaches and the support staff and, most of all, the players - my team-mates - have always been incredibly kind and supportive, and I will always be grateful.

“Lastly, I would like to thank the Kent members and supporters.

“It has felt to me that they have always had my back on the tough days, as well as the good days, and I will miss them. I hope they will understand.”

In Kent's Royal London One-Day Cup 21-run win at Trent Bridge against Lancashire, former Middlesex man Podmore, who previously has had two loan stints at Glamorgan, took 1-21 off five overs.

He joined ahead of the 2018 season and made 74 appearances in all formats, taking 175 wickets and scoring more than 1,000 runs amid his injury-hit stay.

Alongside legendary all-rounder Darren Stevens, who has also left Kent, Podmore helped St Lawrence & Highland Court secure promotion to the Kent League Premier Division.

He will link up with former Kent skipper Sam Northeast in Wales, with Podmore penning a "multi-year contract" according to Glamorgan.

Matt Walker's team have also been linked with Australian fast bowler Michael Hogan, 41, after an apparent u-turn on his retirement.

It's suggested the veteran has rethought plans to retire after ending a 10-year spell with Glamorgan.
