Canterbury’s Jacob Bromley crowned 1300cc Stock Car world champion at Adrian Flux Arena in King’s Lynn, Norfolk

Jacob Bromley was on top of the world after grabbing one of the biggest prizes in Stock Car Racing when he was crowned 1300cc Stock Car world champion at Norfolk’s Adrian Flux Arena last Saturday.

Canterbury racer Bromley has been at the top of his game in the 1300 Stock Cars since bursting onto the scene and has won races all over the UK.

He has been close to the title previously and was getting a reputation of being the “bridesmaid and never the bride” having been on the rostrum the last three times the title was contested. The closest Bromley had been to winning was last year at Aldershot when he just failed by a bumper’s width to take the title.

It didn’t look like he would better his tally when he was forced to miss a large part of the season due to an operation.

With the World Final seeing drivers grid in points order, beginning in grid position 19 didn’t bode well, particularly when he has been used to starting the World Final on the front couple of rows in recent years.

The race itself saw Bromley break into the top 10 by the fourth lap and, a lap later, he was eighth. He picked his way through the opposition and was second by the 14th lap of 24.

What followed was a classic stock car battle as Carl Waterfield withstood all the attacks which Bromley could muster. But, entering the final bend, Bromley did a classic Stock Car last bend “do or die” attack which was executed to perfection.

Emotional scenes followed where Bromley’s father, Ricky, came on the track and embraced his son.

He reflected: “Where do I start? I’m still speechless and can’t believe it.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has messaged me over the past couple of days - my phone hasn’t stopped!

“A massive thank you to the man behind this - my dad – none of it would be possible without him - making sure I go out there with the best of the best, and the time and effort all just for this moment. We have finally done it.

“Also to do it from the 10th row inside was unreal. It still hasn’t sunk in.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m the world champion!”

He will race for the next 12 months with a gold roof as world champion and will defend his title at Lochgelly Raceway in Scotland in 2024.
