City slickers lift cricket crown

MEMBERS of Canterbury Cricket Club have claimed the county six-a-side crown for the first time and prevented Broadstairs from securing a title hat-trick.

Canterbury’s success ensured that East Kent sides have now won the event for eight of the past nine years. But Broadstairs will still be kicking themselves for not making it a title treble.

The final proved a one-sided affair as Canterbury took advantage of wayward bowling and plenty of extras to post 123 for three batting first.

Ben Cooper led the scoring with 27 for Canterbury who then limited the reigning champions to 87 all out.

Brennan hit 30, only to finish on the losing side as Canterbury booked their place in the regional final to be played against Middlesex champions Hampstead on Sunday, March 2.
