Kent’s Charlotte Edwards skippered England to victory against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia on Saturday.

The 29-year-old hit 27 from 27 balls, and Kent team-mate Lydia Greenway scored 32 not out, as England made 277-5 from their 50 overs, before reducing their opponents to 177-7 in the match at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.

Next up for England is a clash with India at North Sydney on Tuesday. The Indians opened their campaign with a 10-wicket win against Pakistan.
