Former long-serving Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford to become club’s chairman for interim period until 2025 in place of retiring Simon Philip

A former long-serving Kent chief executive is to become the club’s chairman for an interim period.

Jamie Clifford, who left Kent in early 2018 after 15 years at the club, including seven as CEO, will deputise for the retiring Simon Philip until the club’s annual general meeting next year - before which it’s expected that non-executive director vacancies on the board will be filled and a long-term chairman will be appointed.

“I care deeply about Kent Cricket and it will be an honour to serve the club in the coming months as chair,” said Mr Clifford, who had previously served as cricket development director for Kent’s board from 2002.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the board, our chief executive (Simon Storey) and the executive team, as we reinforce our plans for the club’s future growth.

“My hope is that I can ensure things are in good shape for a long-term successor to tackle the challenges and exploit the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Mr Clifford became a vice-president of the club in 2018 and went on to be assistant secretary of Marylebone Cricket Club - a role he held for three years. He became a board director at Kent Cricket in 2022.

He is also the secretary of Rye Golf Club.
