A woman was rushed to hospital after a four-vehicle crash which closed the A2 in both directions.

Emergency crews raced to the site between Barham and Bridge after the accident on the London-bound carriageway at 4.10pm on Saturday.

It is believed three cars and one van were involved in the crash.

Police, fire crews and paramedics are still at the scene dealing with the collision.

There were long delays as the carriageway remained closed London-bound for several hours.

Retired police officer Phil Rogers witnessed the crash.

He said: "I saw the vehicles spinning in a cloud of dust and debris on the London bound carriageway as I was travelling coastbound.

"So I stopped and was on scene immediately to assist where I could."

The woman taken to hospital does not have life threatening injuries. The scene was cleared by 11.20pm.

The smash is on the same stretch of road where 56-year-old Henryk Konopacki was killed last month.

The Polish national died after crashing his Renault artic lorry into a concrete bridge support just past the Barham slip road.
