PHILIP GOWER is aiming to win a place in the Great Britain archery team to compete in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Canterbury High School Year 10 pupil, 14, became National Indoor Under-16 champion at Lilleshall, having finished second in the Outdoor event there last summer and is now ranked second in the UK in his age group.

The success is well deserved as Philip trains up to 35 hours a week, before and after school, and at weekends, much of the time on his own.

Philip said: "The results were what I expected, although I must admit I was a little bit disappointed to only finish second outdoors.

"I would also like to thank all my friends, family and teachers for their support."
