Kent chairman George Kennedy is predicting tough times for the county

“Times are tough” – that’s the message of Kent County Cricket Club chairman George Kennedy in the latest newsletter being sent to 4,000 members in the next few days.

He predicts the county’s financial results due to be published in the New Year will be “very disappointing” and says the problems stem from the delay in redeveloping the St Lawrence ground.

In a blunt assessment of the club’s position, he will warn members: “Tough decisions will have to be made on how we structure various aspects of the organisation and make sure that the entire club is fit for purpose.

“It is clear to me that we will have to tighten our belts as a club and the committee is examining a budget for next year which will be designed to reduce our overheads in various areas. "
