THE friends, family and supporters of the late Kent and England batsman Brian Luckhurst have helped raise £3,200 toward the Mountbatten Centre in Canterbury.

The figure topped the £3,000 mark last week when the cricketers from his home village of Alkham played the Court Cavaliers, a side of barristers, lawyers and clerks, in a charity Twenty20 game.

After Alkham romped to a nine wicket win by reaching 155 for one for victory, the evening ended with a buffet, raffle and auction in the Marquis of Granby which raised £280 for the Mountbatten Centre Trust Fund.

In thanking and all those who made donations to the trust of the cancer care centre following her husband’s death, Mrs Raye Luckhurst said: "The total of over £3,200 is quite an amazing amount.

"I am very grateful to and would like to thank everyone, including the contributing organisations, who have given so generously in Brian's memory.

"My words somehow seem inadequate, but my thanks are sincere."
