Skipper Sam Northeast views Sunday’s game at Leicestershire as a fresh start to Kent’s season.
While all eyes on Leicester on Sunday will be on the football club who host Swansea in a crucial Premier League match, a mile away from the King Power Stadium at Grace Road, Kent begin their own quest for top-spot in earnest.
After the abandoned clash at waterlogged Worcester, Kent are already well off the pace in the bid for the single promotion spot in Specsavers County Championship Division 2.
Northeast said: “With one promotion place we have to win the majority of our games – this is certainly one of them and we’ll be trying to do just that.
“If we get the level of performance I know we are capable of, then I have no doubt the result will take care of itself.
“The guys are ready to go. This feels like the start for us after the frustration of last week.”
Several players took part in 2nd XI games against MCC Young Cricketers at Beckenham this week and Northeast said: “It was important for some of the boys to get some time in the middle on a good wicket.
"It’s been a strange start for us. Some teams have played twice and we haven’t bowled a ball yet.”
