Par three battle is decider

AFTER a nail-biting play-off in near darkness, Canterbury Golf Club became the first winners of the East Kent League Knock-out Cup at Ashford on Saturday.

They drew the four-ball, better-ball match with Kings Hill, West Malling, Division 2 champions in their first year so Canterbury captain Richard Davies and Kings Hill's Chris Broughton agreed that the winners be decided by the opening scratch players playing off the long par three 18th until someone won.

More than 100 people watched the last green from in front of the clubhouse as Canterbury's Stuart Wilson and Steve Tiley fought it out with Ian Lewis and Melvin Goodin.
