Funds raised will go towards protective clothing for nurses and doctors, more hospital beds or equipment to support those who are suffering from covid-19.

A target of £10,000 is close to being met already.

In a video recently posted by Kent Cricket, Billings said: “I want to say a huge thank you to all of the NHS staff around the country fighting this virus.

“There are 7,500 doctors and nurses who have come out of retirement as well to fight this virus on the front line. You are all absolute heroes and we admire you are doing.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are going to do our own little bit and stay at home as well.”

Before the lockdown, Billings recently offered to help do shopping for those in isolation around the Canterbury area.

Kent Cricket recently revealed a package of financial measures they hope will help the club come through the coronavirus crisis in good shape.

The domestic season was due to open on April 12 but the ECB last week announced a seven-week delay, pushing the start back until at least May 28.
