KENT'S wicketkeeper-batsman Geraint Jones heads off on tour with England to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Tuesday determined to listen and learn.

He said: "The way I see it is that the tour gives me a great opportunity to see what sets Test players apart from a county players.

"From what David Graveney (England's chairman of selectors) has said, I know that I’m going on the tour as No 2 to Chris Read, so part of it will be a waiting game."

He stressed; "All the guys on tour will be talented, but it’s the mental edge that sets apart the likes of Michael Vaughan and Graham Thorpe from the rest.

"I want to see how they build up to a big match, find out what their thought processes are during a Test and try and bring those principles to my game.

"If they can be mentally tough at Test cricket I ought to be able to transfer that to county cricket and bring it into the way I play for Kent."
