Dartford suffered their first Blue Square Bet South defeat of the season, allowing a 2-1 lead to slip to a 3-2 defeat at Basingstoke on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts took the lead with a well-taken goal on six minutes but Charlie Sheringham (pictured) scored his seventh goal of the season from the spot, at the second attempt, soon after to draw Dartford level after he had been hauled down in the area.

Jon Wallis lashed narrowly over after a knock-down from Richard Graham soon after before Adam Green turned the game on its head on 35 minutes when his 25-yard free-kick was deflected into the net.

However within two minutes the hosts had drawn level with a direct free-kick of their own and they snatched the lead they would not relinquish with a close-range goal past Deren Ibrahim within five minutes of the second-half starting.

Ryan Hayes drew a save from the home keeper and although Basingstoke went close to a fourth with a shot which managed to hit both posts without crossing the line, Tom Bonner headed over from a corner at the other end and Wallis fizzed a shot wide as Dartford tried to find a leveller.
