Coronavirus Kent: Bluewater to close with only 'essential shops' remaining open during Covid-19 outbreak

The county's biggest shopping centre has taken the decision to "largely close", with only essential shops remaining open.

Bluewater issued an announcement on its Facebook page shortly before 5pm, telling customers which shops would stay open at the centre, in Greenhithe, during the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesman said: "In line with government guidance, we have taken the decision to largely close Bluewater until further notice.

"The following essential shops do, however, remain open: Marks and Spencer Food Hall, Boots including their pharmacy, Superdrug and Holland & Barrett – please check with individual stores for their up to date trading hours before visiting."

He added that although the shopping centre was now "largely closed" it would be using its website and and social media channels to stay in touch with customers.

"A number of our stores will still be operating online, so please do visit their websites where they will be able to fulfil online orders," the spokesman continued.

"We look forward to welcoming you back to Bluewater just as soon as it's safe to do so.

"Stay safe, stay home if you can, and look after each other."
