Cigarettes stolen in Dartford, Gravesend, Borough Green, West Kingsdown and other areas

A man has been charged with eight offences after cigarettes were stolen throughout north and west Kent.

Michael Chambers, 30, has been charged with seven counts of burglary and one of attempted burglary.

These are reported to have taken place between November 6 and 26 and police said a large quantity of cigarettes were taken from most places targeted.

Chambers was arrested on Tuesday and charged with burglary of shops in Hever Road, West Kingsdown, on November 16; Pound Road, East Peckham, on November 26; Chastilian Road, Dartford, on November 18; Station Approach, Borough Green, on November 24; and The Row, New Ash Green, on November 6.

He was also charged in connection with burglaries at a shop in Wilsley Pound, Sissinghurst, on November 26 and one in Istead Rise, Gravesend, on November 15, but no items are believed to have been stolen during these.

Finally, he was charged with the attempted burglary of a shop in Hever Road, West Kingsdown, between November 15 and 16.

Chambers, formerly of Grange Park Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey, has been remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.
