Around six miles of queues have built up after a crash on the A2 near the Bean Interchange.
It happened at around 5.15pm, blocking two lanes of the coastbound carriageway.
Highways England says congestion has built up between the A220 for Crayford and the B255 for Bean, adding at least 40 minutes to normal journey times.
The vehicles involved have since been moved to the hard shoulder, but delays remain in the area.
