Heavy traffic on M25 due to tanker fire on Dartford bridge

Traffic backed up after a tanker burst into flames on the Dartford bridge.

The M25 was partly closed due to the blaze between junction 31 for Thurrock and the crossing.

The lorry was on fire on the down slope of the bridge.

A spokesman from KFRS said they were called at 6.25pm to a small fire to tanker tyres caused by the brakes overheating. The load of the vehicle was not involved.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service crews were also in attendance.

All lanes had re-opened by 7.30pm and delays cleared shortly after.
