Shortly before the accident a member of the public reported seeing the suspect vehicle, a Subaru, being driven erratically and the driver is said to have lobbed a beer can into the carriageway.

One of the motorists is reported to have fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers begun a search for the suspect and located a man thought to be the driver near a petrol station in Hawley Road, Dartford.

The man failed a roadside drugs test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving under the influence of drugs and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has since been released under investigation whilst inquiries continue, a spokesman said.
