Driver in horror crash at river crossing

A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital today following an horrific high-speed crash at the Dartford River Crossing.

The 32-year-old man from Maidstone was thrown from his black Nissan Primera after the vehicle struck a crash barrier at the crossing’s toll booths on the A282 this morning.

Firefighters resuscitated the man at the scene and gave him oxygen therapy before an ambulance arrived. Sub officer David Boakes said the impact pushed concrete barriers through the roof of the tolls on the Essex-bound carriageway.

The victim is being treated at Dartford’s Darent Valley Hospital. A Kent Police spokesman said his multiple injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened shortly after 1am, is asked to telephone PC Andy Anderson at the Kent Police Traffic Unit on 01622 690055.
