A20 at Sidcup closed after car overturns

Motorists were stuck in long queues after a car overturned.

The A20 coastbound at Sidcup was closed and traffic was queueing after the vehicle overturned between the A224 Sevenoaks Way – Crittal's Corner at Sidcup – and the M20 J1 Swanley Interchange.

The crash happened not long before 7pm.

One passenger stuck in the queues said: "Several police cars, ambulances and fire brigade have passed us."

Another person said: "We have been at a standstill since 7pm. There is an accident in front of us. I assume it's very serious as there's lots of blue lights gone past and we've just had two fire engines go past. Just hoping everyone is OK."

A Kent Police said: "We were called at around 6.55pm on Saturday to a collision involving two cars on the coastbound carriageway of the A20 near Swanley.

"Officers and paramedics attended the scene where both drivers received medical attention. A man was taken to hospital for further treatment and arrangements were made to recover the vehicles."

This evening's crash comes after three fatalities in two other incidents today.

A young man, a pedestrian, died on the A228 between Malling Road and Rocfort Road in Snodland just after 5.30am after being hit by a lorry.

A few hours later, two passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene following a collision near Dartford.

The driver was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

It happened at around 10.30am when a black BMW M3 was travelling on the A2 towards the slip road for Dartford Heath, when it left the carriageway and overturned.

That part of the A2 has been closed for much of the day for investigation work to be carried out, although National Highways said just after 8.35pm the A2 London-bound (west-bound) was now open. However, the east-bound carriageway remains closed between the A223 Bexley and the A282/M25.

Police have been contacted for more information on the Swanley incident.
