Fire in charity shop

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a charity shop.

Crews were called to the High Street shop in Swanscombe at about 9.45am.

The road has been closed.

Crews were called following reports of the smell of burning.

Wearing breathing apparatus, the firefighters are tackling the fire in the basement and ground floor of EllenorLions Hospice shop.

Spokesman Tessa Youens said: "Staff alerted the fire brigade this morning after smelling smoke coming from the basement.

"They arrived within minutes and extinguished the fire. No-one was hurt.

"The fire was contained to the basement and we are just assessing the extent of the damage."

Police are also in attendance.
