Firefighters have been called to tackle a huge blaze in Swanley quarry.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service's (KFRS) Emergency Control Centre received a 999 call at around 9.30pm, after a woman living near Hockenden Lane reported seeing black smoke.

Three KFRS fire engines, along with one from London Fire Brigade, a bulk water carrier and around 20 firefighters were sent to deal with a large quantity of shrubbery and small trees that were alight in a quarry.

The incident was reduced to one fire engine and a bulk water carrier just before 1am and these resources remain at the scene. A water shuttle and two main jets are being used to fight the blaze.

Residents living nearby are being asked to keep their doors and windows closed, due to the large amount of smoke in the area.
