Ground-breaking ceremony for Inspiration Academy set to be feeder school for Leigh University Technical College

It was a ground-breaking ceremony for a groundbreaking new academy.

Billed as a feeder school for Leigh University Technical College in Brunel Way, Dartford, the new Inspiration Academy is set to be a one-of-a-kind for youngsters leaving primary school – and work has now begun on the site.

Representatives from building contractors BAM and architects Jestico and Whiles joined Dartford North Cllr Tom Maddison (Lab) and staff from the Leigh Academies Trust and Education Funding Agency, for the ceremony.

A short speech from Principal Steve Leahey preceded the felling of a tree and the ceremonial cutting of the first sod from the site.

Simon Beamish, chief executive of Leigh Academies Trust, said the new academy was a chance to offer the UTC’s opportunities to younger pupils, after the academy was rated outstanding for its educational and sector-wide leadership.

He said: “Inspiration Academy will enable just that. In its first year and before it is even open, it is heavily over-subscribed.

“The plan had been to take 120 pupils into year 7, but after further local pressure, we have already expanded this to 140.

“Our brand new building will ensure there are no better chances for a high-quality education for young people across the region than this.”
