Dartford athlete Adam Gemili swaps running shoes for graduation gown

Adam Gemili jetted in from a warm-weather training camp in Qatar to attend his University of East London graduation ceremony.

The European 200 metres champion made the 7,000-mile round trip so that he could receive his 2:1 degree in Sport and Exercise Science alongside course mates at the O2.

The former Dartford Grammar School pupil was the first Brit ever to run sub-10 secs for 100m and sub-20 for 200m.

He quickly made his way back to Doha via Heathrow, where he continues to train ahead of next summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.

“I would say this is right up there with all the things that I’ve achieved in my career so far in athletics and making the Olympic team,” said Adam.

Adam also switched on the Dartford Christmas lights in 2012 and 2013.
