Crews believe Dartford Heath fire was started deliberately

Firefighters are appealing for information after land on Dartford Heath was set alight.

Crews were called to the heath just after 6pm yesterday and say the fire began in three separate areas, making it likely it was started deliberately.

Three fire engines and an all-terrain vehicle were sent and firefighters used a hose reel jet, fire buckets, flexi packs and beaters to tackle the blaze - which covered 50 square metres of land.

Kent Fire and Rescue is now urging anyone with information on illegal fire setting activities to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

People are also being reminded to avoid starting camp fires and bonfires in dry woodland areas and to take extra care when disposing of cigarette ends.

Anyone who spots a fire in the countryside is asked to report it as soon as possible, giving as much detail about the location so it can be dealt with before it spreads.
