A pile-up involving three vehicles at the Dartford Tunnel caused long delays.
The crash happened on the M25 near the crossing at 4.30pm.
The air ambulance landed shortly after, but no one is thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Police, fire crews and ambulances were also called to the scene.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the roof of one of the vehicles and release a casualty, who was treated by paramedics.
Both tunnels were closed in the aftermath, but the west tunnel was re-opened at 5pm after all trapped traffic had been released.
The east tunnel re-opened just before 7pm, but tailbacks remained for several hours.
