An eight-hour stand-off between a man and police in Darenth finally ended at around 10pm last night.

The man, who is believed to have threatened to set light to himself, has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

Officers were called to a disturbance in Wood Lane, near Dartford, yesterday at 2pm. At the height of the drama, an estimated 20 emergency services vehicles were at the scene, which was cordoned off to traffic and pedestrians.

Officers contained the incident to a single address and a man in his 60s was arrested after eight hours of negotiations.
