Overturned car causes 14-mile queue on M25 at Dartford

Motorists faced severe delays of nearly two hours on the M25 in Kent this morning.

An overturned car on the clockwise carriageway two miles from junction 29 with the A127 for Romford and Basildon in Essex led to lane closures entering Kent.

Queueing traffic stretched for 14 miles to a mile past the Swanley Interchange at junction 3 with the M20 and A20.

Traffic was held after junction 2 with the A2 at Dartford for nearly half an hour until 7.10am leading to a journey time of one hour 4 minutes.

The car has since been removed and all lanes reopened but National Highways have warned that delays continue.

At the same time, drivers faced long tailbacks for six miles on the London-bound carriageway of the A2 at the Bean Interchange because of an accident at the B255 Bean Lane.

Two lanes were closed leading to congestion to Cobham services. Travel time was down to 30 minutes.

A broken down car also led to delays on the A229 Loose Road at Maidstone between Plains Avenue and Cranbourne Avenue.
