Police trying to identify accident victim

FINGERPRINTS have today been taken by Kent Police in a bid to try to identify the victim of a fatal road accident.

Mystery surrounds the identity of the male pedestrian who died at the Darent Valley Hospital following the late night incident on Dartford's one-way system.

The victim was aged around 50 and the accident happened close to the Westgate Road junction with Home Gardens at about 11.50pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Serious Accident Unit said: "We have taken the victim's finger prints and will be running it through the national data base in the hope that his details are on there somewhere. Failing that, we will make a widespread media appeal."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident. The 18-year-old driver of the car involved was also taken to hospital. The teenager, who is from Dartford, was unhurt but was treated for shock.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone Kent Police's serious accident unit on 01622 600970.
