Police help woman in labour in dash to Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford

Police helped a woman in labour get to hospital after spotting a vehicle heading along the hard shoulder to beat heavy traffic.

Kent Police Dartford revealed their support for a couple who were desperately trying to get to hospital.

Many of the roads around Darent Valley Hospital were blocked this morning after a "police and medical incident" near the Dartford Crossing led to huge queues on surrounding roads.

Traffic was backed up for almost nine miles back to Junction 4 of the M25, with an accident adding to the delays.

There was also stationary traffic on the A2 westbound for almost eight miles, with other severe delays on the surrounding roads.

Kent Police Dartford posted on social media: "DriverTraining stopped a vehicle travelling on the hard shoulder during heavy traffic on the A2 at Bean.

"Upon speaking with the driver, turns out his partner was in labour. Blue light escort provided to Darent Valley Hospital for a safe birth."

It comes after a baby was born outside a pub in rush hour traffic in Rainham.
