Wilmington Grammar School for Girl reopens following flood inside building in Parsons Lane, Dartford

A grammar school has reopened after a flood inside its building forced it to close.

Wilmington Grammar School for Girls (WGSG), in Parsons Lane, Dartford, sent last-minute messages to parents warning their children not to attend school on Friday (March 8).

A statement on its website said it had closed “due to a flood in school”.

Parents were alerted as pupils headed to bus stops at around 7.45am warning them of the incident.

It read: “Due to a serious water leak in the main school, WGSG is closed today.

“All lessons will be live online lessons starting from period two.”

The statement added that Wilmington Grammar School for Boys was still open and sixth-form students with classes at the nearby school would still need to attend.

The school reopened today (March 11) with headteacher Michelle Lawson thanking staff and parents for adapting to home learning at such short notice on Friday.

In an email to parents seen by KentOnline, Ms Lawson said: “We have managed to fix the leak, and whilst we will need to do some works over the Easter break, we will be back to school as usual on Monday.”

WGSG has been approached for further information.
