Police later arrested a man in his 50s from Croydon on suspicion of dangerous driving but he has since been released while inquiries continue.

It appears the man had driven about 10 miles on the wrong side of the motorway before the clip begins.

Kevin Brett started recording his 75-second clip after he spotted the black BMW as he was heading to work.

He said: "Oh my God, something going down the wrong ******* way – the wrong ******* way down the M25. Jesus Christ, what is he ******* on?

"What the hell is he on? Oh my word something is going to majorly, majorly, majorly happen.

"Why doesn't he just ******* stop?"

The video, captured at around 6.20am on Saturday, September 25, shows many drivers faced with the BMW driven towards them, including several HGVs.

Roofer Kevin has shared the clip online and it has since been viewed more than 500,000 times, attracted more than 2,000 reactions and more than 4,200 comments.

He has received backlash from most viewers as it appears he is filming while behind the wheel himself.

One user commented: "Who's the bigger idiot, the driver filming and not paying attention, or the other person driving on the wrong side?"

Another user wrote: "I hope that guy wasn't behind the wheel while filming this and driving on the motorway – what the hell is he on?"

A third said: "The dude filming is hogging the 3rd lane, at least the BMW driver is keeping left!"

A fourth added: "Says the man driving down the M25 with his phone in his hand, not looking at his own side of the road."

At 6.45am, the same vehicle was captured driving the wrong way on the A21 after Hildenborough, heading towards Sevenoaks, where it was stopped by police.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at around 6.20am on Saturday, September 25, regarding a report that a car was being driven against the flow of traffic on the anticlockwise carriageway of the M25 near Dartford.

"Patrols were deployed and a BMW was stopped on the southbound carriageway of the A21 near Sevenoaks.

"A man in his 50s from Croydon was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and was later released pending further investigation."
