Southeastern apologises for signalling problems as Medway, Gravesend and Dartford commuters face hour long delays

Commuters are experiencing delays of up to an hour this morning due to signalling problems and a broken down train.

The issue arose near New Cross at 6.11am and many services between London and Kent via Hither Green have been pushed back, amended or cancelled completely.

Trains heading from Charing Cross to Gillingham have been hit by delays of more than 40 minutes, affecting those hoping to catch a train from Chatham, Strood, Rochester, Higham, Gravesend and Dartford.

Services between Gravesend and the capital, such as the 8.32am service, are also delayed by more than 40 minutes. There are also delays from Dover Priory and Ashford International.

Southeastern say services are beginning to return to normal,.

If you are travelling to or from London Cannon Street or London Charing Cross, you can use London buses, London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Tramlink, Southern, London Overground and Thameslink services to help complete your journey.

Meanwhile, because of a broken down freight train at Otford, the Maidstone East Line towards London is currently blocked.

If you've been delayed by 30 minutes or more, you may be eligible for a refund.
