Careless Ford Focus driver stopped after attempting to race unmarked police car in Crayford, near Dartford

Video footage has captured the moment a speeding driver appeared to attempt to race a marked police car before being stopped and apologising.

The Ford Focus driver had reached speeds of 56mph in a 30mph zone and went through a red light in Crayford High Street, near Dartford at around 3am on Saturday (April 6).

Bodycam footage shows the motorist speeding along Roman Way, near the Sainsbury’s petrol station with police behind him.

He almost loses control as he turns the corner before finally being stopped by officers outside the Bear and Ragged Staff pub.

In the video clips, officers are heard telling the motorist he “cannot drive like that” to which he replies: “Sorry officer.”

He received a traffic offence report for driving without due care and attention.

Nearby, officers in an unmarked car spotted a heavily modified Ford Fiesta attempting to race another vehicle on the A20 near Sidcup at around 2.15am.

The driver was stopped and issued with a Section 59 warning, meaning his vehicle will be seized if he is caught driving in an antisocial manner again within 12 months.

He was also issued with a traffic offence report for having an illegal exhaust.

It comes as the force clamps down on antisocial motorists across Kent.

It has sent out extra patrols to disrupt nuisance car meets and been taking enforcement action against those involved in such activities.

Superintendent Nick Sparkes said: “Anti-social motorists can severely impact upon people’s daily lives, whether they are causing a nuisance at unauthorised gatherings or posing a risk to other road users by driving in an irresponsible or dangerous manner.

“We act quickly to disrupt any events that have a negative effect on local communities, and do not hesitate to take action against those who drive their vehicles in an irresponsible manner and put other members of the public in harm’s way.”
