Bike stolen and left dangling from Longfield Railway Station bridge

A stolen bike has been found dangling from a bridge near a railway station.

Hector Owles bought the bicycle on Facebook Marketplace about three weeks ago for £15 to cycle from Longfield Railway Station to his work.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Fulham, locked it up at the bike rack outside the station but when he went to use it two weeks ago he found it had been stolen.

He said: "I never even actually got to ride it.

"It's only a 10-minute bike ride to work but now it's a half-hour walk in the morning. Luckily I can get a lift."

He did not report the theft to police due to the low value of the bike.

A post was made in a New Ash Green Facebook group this morning with a picture of the bike attached saying: "Anyone missing a bike? Must've been a hell of a night."

From that, the word got back to Hector after his boss saw it.

"I thought it was pretty funny this morning when I got told about the post," he said.

"I think they probably saw the bike, stole it and chucked it off the side of the bridge."

Network Rail has been contacted for comment.
