House of Fraser slammed after rabbit fur coats found in Bluewater store

House of Fraser has been slammed as "disgusting" after it was revealed it is selling rabbit fur coats at its Bluewater store.

It comes after the retail giant claimed it avoided using real fur after an investigation in 2017.

Wildlife Conservation graduate Robyn Murphy made the discovery at the store on Monday as she went for dinner with a friend.

When checking the coat she saw it had a label which said 'real rabbit fur from Spain'.

The 24-year-old is calling on shoppers to boycott the department store.

She said: "I was completely shocked when I saw it and felt sick. We were just passing through from the car park and noticed the coat and checked as we always do. You could tell straight away it was real fur because you can see the skin.

"It's disgusting and there's no excuse to use it - it's only done for profit."

Robyn, who graduated from the University of Kent, said if the store doesn't respond to angered shoppers emails she will plan a protest.

"It should reinstate its no fur policy," the Rochester resident said.

"If it doesn't do that or make a public apology people should boycott the store, or we'll protest outside the store telling people what it is doing. I wouldn't want to shop somewhere after hearing it is selling that."

Having been vegan for nearly five years and an animal activist for three, Robyn has already taken part in a number of protests around the country supporting, including an animal rights march in London.

She said: "Animal rights is something at the centre of my heart. It's horrible to see these companies hurt animals like this for profit."

Robyn's original post on Facebook as been shared by more than 7,000 people and received more than 2,000 comments.

One woman commented: "Shame on you, House of Fraser, for playing a part in such a cruel and repugnant business.

"Fur is not acceptable in today's society and I'm shocked that you think this is acceptable.

"I will not be setting foot in any of your stores until you stop your involvement."

House of Fraser has been approached for comment.
