Suspect charged after armed robberies at Domino’s Pizza and Asda petrol station in Swanley

A suspect has been charged after reports of armed robberies at a takeaway pizza shop and a petrol station.

Police were first called to Domino’s Pizza in the Swanley High Street on Saturday night after it is alleged a man entered the shop with what appeared to be a firearm.

The man is then reported to have demanded staff hand over money from the till before making off with the cash shortly after 9.40pm.

Then just hours later, a second robbery is reported have taken place at the Asda petrol station in London Road, Swanley, less than a mile down the road.

A man is reported to have entered the forecourt at around 6.30am and threatened staff with a knife before stealing cash and fleeing on foot.

A 999 call had been made and a suspect was arrested by police later that day.

Karl Kaynar, of no fixed address, has since been charged with two counts of robbery, theft, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of a knife in a public place.

The 40-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (March 26) where he faced the charges, as well as two further charges of possessing drugs, namely heroin and amphetamine.

He was remanded in custody for a further hearing due to take place at Maidstone Crown Court on April 22.

A 48-year-old woman from Sevenoaks was also arrested in connection with the offences. She was bailed, pending further inquiries, until June 21.
