Chris Bartram ended a 27-year break from the England table tennis team with a medal haul in a vets tournament in Guernsey.

The 45-year-old (pictured) from Wilmington brought home team gold and individual silver after captaining England at the six-nation event.

His last appearance for England was in 1984 when he came back from the European Junior Championships with a bronze.

"It was a great moment and quite emotional," said Bartram, who is the second-highest ranked veteran in the country.

"I remember being quite emotional back in 1984 and it was quite emotional to be picked again 27 years later.

"It was just nice reward for all the hard work I have put in over the years and the success over the last few seasons."

Bartram, who once played semi-professional table tennis in Germany, competed alongside Andy Trott in the doubles and won gold against Scotland but then lost to his team-mate in the final of the singles.
