Teens arrested after earphone robbery at Dartford's Priory Centre

Two teenagers have been arrested after stealing a boy's wireless earphones at a shopping mall.

The victim was reported to have been assaulted by four boys of a similar age at the Priory Centre in Lowfield Street, Dartford, soon after 5pm on Wednesday.

Officers made inquiries and later arrested two 15-year-olds from Swanscombe and Dartford on suspicion of robbery.

They have since been released on bail until February 22 pending further inquiries.

It follows a string of similar incidents in which youngsters are being targeted for their earphones, many believed to be Apple Airpods.

Two weeks ago a 15-year-old boy was mugged on The Brent in Stone.

In response, police said they were now stepping up their patrols in the town centre, as well as Greenhithe and other key locations and times.

Earlier this month police were called to Greenhithe station after reports a 16-year-old was robbed by a gang for her AirPods and cash.

Then just a few days later an attempted robbery in London Road was foiled when a driver pulled over to tell a group of four muggers to leave a woman alone.

Officers said they were also working with British Transport Police as it is believed some of the offenders may be coming into north Kent from London by train.

Speaking in relation to this week's incident, Detective Sergeant Sam Stuart said: "We believe there are witnesses to this incident who haven’t yet spoken to us and urge anyone who has information to come forward."
