A20 closed as emergency services called to crash near Swanley Interchange

Firefighters cut the roof off a car after a crash closed the A20 for almost four hours.

The fire service was called to the incident - which happened close to the Swanley Interchange and M25 junction - just before 4.30pm.

Traffic was stopped on the coastbound side between the A223, Chislehurst, and the Junction 3 of the M25, Swanley.

Police and paramedics joined firefighters at the scene of the incident, which involved two cars.

There were two miles of congestion on approach, but the route reopened at about 8pm.

Fire crews say one driver was cut free from their car and handed into the care of paramedics.

Police confirmed a person was treated for injuries, which are understood not to be life-threatening.

A spokesman added: “They were taken to hospital for further medical attention.

“The carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and arranged for recovery of the vehicles.”
