Dartford boss Tony Burman is keen to cast his eye over more trialists as his side’s pre-season preparations gather pace.

The Darts finish their first phase of tough warm-up fixtures with the visit of newly-promoted League 2 side Crawley Town to Princes Park on Saturday after defeats against fellow full-time sides Southend, Gillingham and Millwall.

Gills and Millwall enjoyed 5-2 and 5-0 wins on Friday and Tuesday night respectively but Burman (pictured) insists the testing schedule is serving its purpose.

He said: "It is always disappointing to lose 5-0 but we have to put it into perspective.

"The fans might find it difficult to understand but this is doing us good. Millwall, in particular, are an excellent side. They were so quick and had us chasing shadows but doing that helps our stamina and fitness.

"The players were shattered at the end of the game but they already felt better for having done it."

Darts featured several academy players during the games and also included former Fulham and Lincoln City left-back Joe Anderson on Friday and striker Nick Beasant, son of ex-England keeper Dave, against the Lions.

Burman added: "I’d like to have a look at a few more over the next couple of weeks too."
