Welling striker Adam Coombes joins Sutton United

Welling striker Adam Coombes has left the club to join National League Sutton United.

The 25-year-old forward has scored 34 goals for Welling this season, attracting interest from Football League clubs including Gillingham, Barnet and Stevenage.

But Sutton, who played Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night, have won the race for his signature.

"Adam is going to Sutton - good luck to him," Welling caretaker manager/coach Harry Wheeler told the club's website.

"It was inevitable when you score that many goals that people take notice of you.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he carries on his goalscoring form.

"He is a great lad and we wish him all the best.

"He has turned down clubs that offered him more money (earlier this season) because he enjoyed it at Welling."

Coombes played his final game for the Wings in a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night at Bishop's Stortford.
