Adam Gemili begins his quest for three gold medals at the European under-23 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland, on Thursday, with an assault on the 10-second barrier in his sights.

The 19-year-old Dartford sprinter is one of the biggest names in the competition after his semi-final appearance in the London 2012 100m and will seek a hat-trick of sprint golds in Finland.

Gemili said: “I feel like I’m in form to do it this year. I should have maybe done it (under 10 seconds) last year but it wasn’t to be. I didn’t get the right race with the right wind and execute it well. Hopefully, if things go to plan this year, I don’t see why I shouldn’t.”

The 100m heats are on Thursday morning with the semi-finals this evening and final tomorrow night while the 200m gets under way on Friday night with the semis and final on Saturday.
