Welling manager Dean Frost signs James Ferry from Brentford and Noah Chesmain from Millwall and sells Ben Jefford to Forest Green Rovers

Welling manager Dean Frost has made his first changes to the playing squad.

Title-chasing Forest Green activated a clause in defender Ben Jefford's contract to sign the left-back for an undisclosed fee on Thursday.

Jefford, who spent time on loan at Ebbsfleet last season, played 61 games for the Wings since joining from Port Vale 18 months ago.

Arriving at Park View Road is Brentford midfielder James Ferry. The tall 18-year-old is available for this Saturday's trip to FC Halifax.

He is replaced at left-back by Millwall's Noah Chesmain who arrives on loan.

“It’s a big loss both in terms of the player but also the character in the dressing room," said Frost.

“We have to get on with it but it’s disappointing. Ben has worked hard and deserved it but it's a shame for us.

"It has been sprung on us at the last minute so we needed to move quickly to replace him.

“Millwall have been great to let us have Noah. It’s good for him to come and play first-team football.

“He comes highly recommended from three or four different people.”

On the signing of Ferry, Frost added: "I watched him play 10 days ago and he stood out for me.

“He is a solid, holding midfield player and he brings height to the side.

"He has a good attitude and Brentford have high hopes for him and hopefully we can help him progress and he'll help us."
